On 1 March 2022, the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA), an EU-funded programme supporting Ugandan enterprises, opened applications for its fourth edition. UGEFA seeks high potential small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) interested in debt finance to grow their businesses. The programme targets SMEs specialising in eco-tourism, clean energy, sustainable transport, waste management and green manufacturing, including Agro-processing (turning raw crops into finished products such as textiles and dried fruit).

Successful applicants will be offered capacity building workshops to support them scale through a series of hands-on interactive sessions to refine their business models, financial systems management, and impact measures. The workshops aim to bridge the gap in accessing finance for SMEs by enabling them to meet the requirements from UGEFA partner financial institutions.

Interested applicants must fulfil the following criteria to apply:

  • Have a registered and revenue-generating businesses
  • Business must be engaged in a green sector, specifically clean energy, sustainable transport, sustainable tourism, waste management or green manufacturing, including in the supply chain of sustainable agricultural products
  • Have a business operational for at least two years
  • Have an interest in accessing support to access debt finance
