Agricultural Business Initiative (aBi) Development Limited is inviting applications from eligible agribusinesses to implement projects under the cereals funding window titled “Increasing production, productivity, quality and market access of cereals”. This funding window aims to contribute to improved profitability, income, and employment of Ugandan farmers and agribusinesses. Targeted crops are maize, rice, barley & sorghum.

The total available funding for the window is UGX 13.75 billion. Out of the total amount, successful individual projects will each be allocated UGX 2.73 billion for three years. The aBi budget will finance up to 20% of the project capital expenditures. Eligible activities for funding are:

  • Production of cereals
  • Training in post-harvest and grain quality
  • Grain quality assessment
  • Expansion of cereals out-grower models/schemes
  • Mechanization of production, harvest, and post-harvest activities


Who can apply?

The call for proposals is open to applicants that meet the following requirements:

  • Legally registered cereals processing or marketing agribusinesses, with or without a co-applicant organization specialized in farmer mobilization, farmer out-grower schemes, farmer extension education, and market linkage support
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years in operation, supported with audited financial statements
  • Operate in any part of Uganda with preference to those in eastern and northern Uganda
  • Demonstrate experience and commitment in developing the cereals sector in Uganda
  • Have the capacity to contribute towards the project budget in cash
  • A reputable organization with no previous record of funds mismanagement
  • Applicant should be fully Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) tax and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) compliant
